Minecraft: Pocket Edition 0.7.0 update arriving SOON!

reznaf | 10:00 AM | , , , , , ,

We have been following the progress of the Minecraft: Pocket Edition 0.7.0 update since its inception, from the additional features that will be arriving with it to the full multiplayer experience that will be arriving with Minecraft Pocket Realms and even the delays. Now we finally have some good news for everyone, the update is on the way!

Mojang tries hard to release the Minecraft: Pocket Edition updates simultaneously onto both Android and iOS and over the past couple of days the developers working on Minecraft: Pocket Edition have been working on one final bug that was holding them back. That bug is now apparently squashed and as of a few moments ago (at the time of writing this) the iOS 0.7.0 update has been submitted to Apple for approval.
This means that the update is finally going to be arriving along with all of the features everyone has been patiently waiting to sink their teeth into.

So to summarize everything, the 0.7.0 update has been submitted to Apple for approval (usually takes 1-2 weeks but could be quicker). That means the Android version will be arriving pretty much as soon as Apple approves the iOS 0.7.0 update. Of course Mojang could be nice and release the Android update but either way, 0.7.0 will soon be a real thing.

Minecraft: Pocket Edition 0.7.0 update delayed until mid-May

reznaf | 8:00 PM | , , , , ,

The much anticipated 0.7.0 update for Minecraft: Pocket Edition has been slightly delayed from getting pushed out onto Android and iOS. Well there is some slightly bad news today for all of you chomping at the bit to get this update as well as getting on Minecraft Realms with your own server or onto your friend's server.

Originally the update was slated for release by the end of April but was slightly pushed back to possibly being the first week of May if it didn't arrive by the end of April. Well there is an update regarding when 0.7.0 will be released and it looks like everyone will have to wait just a little bit longer. Johan posted an update on his Twitter account stating that the release of the update will most likely be mid-May now.

Why the delay? Because the developers working on the Minecraft: Pocket Edition 0.7.0 update "forgot a couple of things and have a couple of bugs to fix before release". Better to have a bug free update, especially with multiplayer servers heading our way, than one with bugs right? So everyone will have to wait a couple of weeks before the update is released.

Minecraft: Pocket Edition v0.7.0 trailer and buckets news

reznaf | 4:21 PM | , , , , , , , ,

So while everyone sits waiting patiently for the upcoming Minecraft: Pocket Edition 0.7.0 update to arrive which will introduce true multiplayer functionality to the game via Minecraft Realms, there is other features coming with the update, one possibly being the arrival of Buckets finally.

If you've been following our coverage of the upcoming update, then you should be well familiar with what is heading our way. Now you can add Buckets to that list although we have to state that it isn't 100% confirmed yet. The reason we say this is that it could be a joke Jeb was making as well referring to Bukkit. For those of you not in the Minecraftworld on PC, Bukkit is a type of server software people use to host Minecraft servers.

However, Buckets have been added to the official Minecraft: Pocket Edition update thread on the Minecraft Forums and so far that thread has never been wrong. So it looks like we will finally be getting the ability to use buckets soon. For those of you who keep asking, the update won't be arriving until late April at the earliest but most likely won't arrive until the first week of May 2013.

On a side note, Mojang has released a new Minecraft: Pocket Edition trailer finally as well which you can watch in the video above.

Minecraft: Pocket Edition 0.7.0 realms and private servers

reznaf | 1:30 PM | , , , , , ,

As most Minecraft: Pocket Edition fans know, the 0.7.0 update that is on its way this April (if all goes well) will bring true multiplayer to the game. As we suspected in our previous coverage of the multiplayer functionality, it will be called Minecraft Realms.

While most of the new details apply to the upcoming Minecraft Realms in general, which will also be available for the PC version, what did come out of the details is the possible pricing of what a person will have to pay to have a Mojang hosted Minecraft server, or in this case, a Minecraft: Pocket Edition server. Right now Mojang is eying up a price point of somewhere around the $10-$15 per month mark for anyone who wants their own private Mojang hosted server.

Of course other details like if Minecraft: Pocket Edition servers on Minecraft Realms will come with unlimited terrain generation aren't yet known. A price point of $10-$15 isn't bad though at all.

Minecraft: Pocket Edition 0.7.0 - multiplayer realms

reznaf | 11:50 PM | , , , , , ,

So everyone is waiting patiently for the upcoming 0.7.0 update for Minecraft: Pocket Edition to arrive because of one main feature that will come with this update: true multiplayer. This feature has been requested numerous time by almost everyone who plays this game and now we are finally going to be getting it. Of course if you missed our last article about the 0.7.0 update then you missed some important information regarding the upcoming multiplayer features.

Initially all servers will be hosted through Mojang and anyone wanting to run their own server will have to pay Mojang a monthly fee. Administrators will have commands available through a custom GUI in-game instead of having to memorize actual commands to type. Multiplayer servers will be accessible through Wifi at first with 3G/4G connectivity coming in a future update. Also the initial roll out of multiplayer will feature a few servers as a bit of a soft beta launch. After everything is tested, multiplayer will fully  launch in another update a couple of weeks after the beta launch.

As for actually accessing a server, players will have to be whitelisted regardless of what server they are trying to connect to. Each server will have their own whitelist that players will need to apply to get on. If you're not on a whitelist, that server won't show up on the server list in-game. You do not need a Minecraft PC account to be able to play on Minecraft: Pocket Edition servers but if you do have one, that name will appear when you log into servers. There will be nameplates as well and most likely skins will be available also.

So that is a somewhat quick rundown of what we know will be arriving with multiplayer for Minecraft: Pocket Edition when the 0.7.0 update is released. Johan Bernhardsson posted today on Twitter a quick look at what the realms list will probably look like, which you can see in the image above. As you can see in the image, the admin's name will be there as well as what type of server each one is. It looks like each server will also have 'details' that we can look at before joining.

It looks like multiplayer is coming along nicely for Minecraft: Pocket Edition and the 0.7.0 update is slated for release sometime in April 2013. We still don't know a few things regarding multiplayer yet such as whether or not there will be infinitely rendered worlds finally, if caves will be included and other content we all want. As more information comes to light, we will be sure to post an update

Minecraft: Pocket Edition 0.7.0 update, release date, multiplayer info NEWS

reznaf | 11:33 PM | , , , , ,

Well we finally have a bit more of a solid idea as to when 0.7.0 will arrive as well as a lot more details regarding the official multiplayer functionality that will arrive with this update. It isn't exactly what you may be thinking it will be.

Multiplayer isn't going to run like it does traditionally with the PC version of Minecraft in terms of hosting your own server, at least not at first. Initially players will need to get onto a whitelist to connect to the Mojang online servers that will be available for Minecraft: Pocket Edition. These online servers however will be available for people to set up for a fee should you want to run your own Minecraft: Pocket Edition server. In other words, home-based PC servers (or hosted servers through companies) won't be supported right away but if you want to host a server you will be able to through Mojang for a fee.

All of those servers will be whitelisted, as we just mentioned, so to connect to any of them you will need to apply to get on that whitelist and be accepted. For those of you looking to host a server, there will be no OP commands. Instead everything will be done through a UI through the game which is rather cool, especially if you don't want to memorize all the commands.

You do not need a PC Minecraft account to use the Minecraft: Pocket Edition multiplayer but if you do have one, you will be using the same name as is on that account. Also, there will be nameplates in multiplayer so you will actually know who is who.

When all of this arrives, it will be in the form of an Alpha version for Mojang to test out and make sure everything works. A full release of the multiplayer functionality will then arrive a few weeks later and the amount of servers online will continue to scale up.

So when will all of this arrive for Minecraft: Pocket Edition? Well Johan Bernhardsson also confirmed that the 0.7.0 update should arrive sometime in April 2013. So we really don't have too much longer to wait until we get full multiplayer and you all will be able to connect to our official Minecraft: Pocket Edition server and play with each other and us!

Minecraft: Pocket Edition's future multiplayer functionality

reznaf | 10:01 AM | , , , ,

We have a double shot of Minecraft: Pocket Edition news to go over this morning and the first chunk of news comes from one of the main developers working on Minecraft: Pocket Edition who goes by the name Johan Bernhardsson who just did a quick livestream on TwitchTV with Daniel Kaplan with both of them showing off some of the new features coming in the 0.6.0 update.
While we will get into the upcoming 0.6.0 update in our next article, there was some talking about the future 0.7.0 update which we have touched on a couple of times already recently. The main focus of conversation though regarding 0.7.0 was the multiplayer functionality that Mojang is currently working heavily on right now in order to bring a more true multiplayer experience to Minecraft: Pocket Edition.

Since this was the topic being discussed a bit during the livestream, some new details about the upcoming multiplayer functionality came out. First, the whole multiplayer experience will be coming in the 0.7.0 update. This was confirmed this morning during the livestream. There isn't a date for the 0.7.0 update, but multiplayer is confirmed for it.

Initially it looks like multiplayer with run through WiFi only at first although 3G/4G support is also in the
works. When it comes to actually playing in multiplayer, items and creations will be saved when you leave the game since everything will be server-side saved. However, details on how servers will work haven't been released yet and it won't really be anything like how the PC version of the game works in regards to multiplayer servers.

One other items touched on regarding multiplayer is player skins. Right now we can technically change skins through modding the game. Multiplayer will, however, support skins natively. Details on how to change skins haven't been released yet either unfortunately. On the bright side of things though, we will know a lot more next week as Johan and Daniel plan to show off multiplayer in another livestream.
A few other features coming in the 0.7.0 update that the two developers touched on was the addition of the options menu being accessible while in-game instead of having to leave your world and head back to the main menu to adjust your settings. Also 'smooth lighting' will be added as an experimental option people can play around with as well in 0.7.0.
